The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) is set to undergo significant updates starting in July 2025. These changes, driven by the new Aged Care Act and the upcoming Support at Home program, will have important implications for providers delivering allied health services. At Super Rehab, we work closely with aged care service providers to ensure that their clients receive the best possible care, and these changes offer an opportunity to enhance our collaboration for the wellbeing of the clients we serve together.
1. Service Categories: What’s Changing?
From July 2025, the new Support at Home service list will introduce clearer service categories. These updates are designed to make services more accessible and better structured for client needs. Here’s how the categories relevant to CHSP allied health will be organised:
- Allied Health and Therapeutic Services
This category focuses on clinical needs and interventions that help clients improve or maintain physical, functional, and cognitive abilities. Services we provide that fall under this category include Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Exercise Physiology, Speech Pathology, Dietetics, Psychology, Social Work, Allied Health Assistants, Music Therapy, and Counselling or Psychotherapy.
These services also include assessments and prescriptions for assistive technology and home modifications, ensuring clients can stay safe and independent in their homes. By working together, we can ensure that clients receive the right combination of clinical and therapeutic support for their specific needs.
- Therapeutic Services for Independent Living
Focused on maintaining social, mental, and physical well-being, these services will aim to support older individuals in living independently at home. The services include Acupuncture, Chiropractic Services, Osteopathy, Remedial Massage (if part of a prescribed treatment plan), Diversional Therapy and Art Therapy.
These services are designed to help clients manage age-related conditions while staying independent. Interventions can be provided in-person or via telehealth, and may also involve group-based programs led by health professionals.
2. Supporting You with Consistent Pricing and Service Delivery
While the government is considering several options for pricing models under CHSP from 2025, we remain committed to ensuring that the care we deliver to your clients is as seamless as possible. The new pricing models may affect how services are structured, but we’re here to work alongside your team to ensure that these changes have minimal impact on your clients’ care.
As your allied health service partner, we’ll stay informed on pricing updates and keep our service delivery aligned with the evolving requirements. The government is currently exploring several options to standardise pricing across all CHSP providers:
- Maintaining current pricing with indexation for inflation.
- Moving all providers to the top of the existing CHSP price range.
- Aligning CHSP pricing with the Support at Home model, which may result in higher client contributions for everyday living services but maintain exemptions for clinical services.
3. Staying Compliant with New Reporting Requirements
With the upcoming changes, there will be new reporting obligations to ensure that all services align with the government’s updated framework. We are prepared to support your team in meeting these new requirements, ensuring that service delivery continues without disruption. By working closely together, we can ensure compliance while maintaining the high standard of care your clients expect.
4. Preparing for the Full Transition to Support at Home
By July 2027, the CHSP will fully transition to the Support at Home program. This is a major shift aimed at creating a more integrated and consistent journey for clients as their care needs evolve. For Super Rehab, this means reviewing our service delivery models and ensuring IT systems are ready.
Let’s Keep Working Together for Your Clients’ Wellbeing
